First I thought I was buying a one time product- so of course they don't tell you about auto renewal- well they charged me for something I don't use- you cannot understand anything they say- so even if I needed help, they can't help because they don't speak clear English- also they don't chat with you- you can't call them- they hang up on you- I just want a charge taken off my account - run from these people- you'll never get support if you need it and if you do it won't be clear. Malwarebytes has all of the core security features that I expect from an antivirus program, including real-time malware protection, ransomware protection, and malwarebytes review protection.
But unlike so many of its competitors, Malwarebytes hardly offers any additional features, like a firewall, system tuneup tools, a password manager, or parental controls.
Malwarebytes’s top plan does include a VPN, but competing brands like TotalAV, Norton or Bitdefender offer better VPNs, along with a wider range of extra features.
That said, malwarebytes review, if you’re looking for a basic, no-frills antivirus that offers good malware protection, Malwarebytes is an excellent, low-cost option.

Malwarebytes’s virus scanner is very good — it provides both on-demand scans as well as real-time protection to block the vast majority of malware on Windows, Mac, malwarebytes review, and Android devices. Its scanner uses a malware database to detect malware on your system, as well as heuristic analysis to flag new malware files that haven’t yet been added to its database.
Before installing Malwarebytes on my Windows device, I downloaded around 1,000 malicious files (viruses, trojans, spyware, malwarebytes review, etc.) to my test PC, malwarebytes review. Once Malwarebytes completed the Threat Scan, it found around 76% of the files. But the full disk scan detected 95% of malware (although it took about 3 hours, which is pretty long for a full disk scan). During my tests the Threat Scan only took 1 minute and 26 seconds to scan over 300,000 files on my device. This is comparable to competitors’ quick scan options, which usually take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes.
Overall, Malwarebytes has an industry-average detection rate of around 95%, which is pretty good. The Threat Scan is a good option for users that want to quickly check their files for malware, and I found it easy to select whether to scan a single folder or my entire disk with the Custom Scan option.

Real-Time Protection
Malwarebytes’s real-time protection (available only on the paid plans) includes four different layers of protection:
- Malware and PUP protection.
- Web protection (PC only).
- Ransomware protection (Android and PC only).
- Exploit protection (PC only).
Malwarebytes’s real-time malware protection performed really well in my tests, successfully blocking 98% of the malware I attempted to download to my nessus crack for kali linux Activators Patch. This is a great result that’s comparable to most premium antiviruses — Malwarebytes blocked worms, viruses, malwarebytes review, trojans, and even web-based exploit attacks before they had a chance to make any changes to my test PC.
I also like Malwarebytes’s web protection and exploit protection features — these tools work in the background regardless of which browser you’re using, and they can block phishing attacks as well as malicious web scripts that try to hack your computer through your browser. In my testing, the web protections blocked more phishing and exploit attacks than built-in malwarebytes review from Chrome or Mozilla.
However, Malwarebytes’s ransomware protection isn’t as good as its other real-time protections. I used a ransomware simulator malwarebytes review see whether or not Malwarebytes could detect and block ransomware, and Malwarebytes only blocked around two-thirds of the ransomware files on my device. When I used the same simulator on Norton, McAfee, and Bitdefender, all ransomware simulations were instantly blocked.
Overall, Malwarebytes’s ransomware protection needs some work, but the real-time virus protection and web protections are on par with the best antiviruses on the market.

Browser Guard
Malwarebytes’s Browser Guard is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that does a great job blocking phishing sites, but it doesn’t work very well as an ad-blocker, malwarebytes review. The extension protects against malware, pop-up ads, trackers, phishing scams, and PUPs.
Browser Guard is very easy to use, as all of the protections are turned on by default and there’s nothing else for you to do. However, if you’d like to turn off certain layers of protection — for example, if you know a website is safe but the extension is blocking necessary pop-ups — you can easily toggle each protection on or off.
During my testing, I visited 40 known phishing sites and Browser Guard blocked 36 — a success rate of 90%, which is pretty good.
Because Malwarebytes claims that Browser Guard can make your browser run 4 times faster due to blocked ads and other unwanted content, I also tested the extension against sites filled with ads. However, Browser Guard didn’t block all of the ads on these websites — it blocked malwarebytes review a third of the ads on most sites I visited, whereas competing brands like Avira blocked almost all of the ads on the same sites.
Overall, Browser Guard isn’t a good ad blocker, but it’s effective at detecting phishing sites.

Malwarebytes Privacy has decent connection speeds. To assess its speeds, I first ran a speed test without the VPN, and then I ran another test when I was connected to a local server (I’m in the US). I also tested the VPN’s speeds while connected to distant servers.
As you can see, my connection speeds were slowed down — this is to be expected with any VPN, but I was disappointed to see my download speed cut to one-fifth of its original speed. Next, I wanted to see how Malwarebytes performed when performing quick and full scans of my system. I disabled real-time protection and re-downloaded all live virus samples and EICAR test files.
I ran a quick scan of my system, which was completed in 90 seconds. For comparison, Bitdefender’s quick scan was more in-depth at 338 seconds. Malwarebytes failed to detect any of the malware samples.

Considering the quick scan was so fast, it was surprising to see how much memory was used. While the figure was lower during background scanning, it was still higher than I’ve seen with other providers.

Interestingly, CPU and memory usage was lower during a full system scan than during a quick scan of my system.
